If you have enterprise compliance requirements — data residency, audit trails, importing GA history — or you need the breadth of heatmaps, session recording and A/B testing, Matomo fits better. They have been doing this for nearly two decades and offer commercial support.
If you are one person or a small team and do not want to operate anything. Matomo's archiving jobs can put real pressure on the database; we have no archiving step at all.
